Albert Harold Lewis needed more simplicity and focus to his collage work so he decided to do black and white pieces cut directly from magazines. He felt like he finally was able to say what I've been trying to say with collage. It may seem like a stretch to explain but one look at some of these collages compared to other artists working with collage and you can really see the influence of the great artists of the 15th through 17th centuries.
