Statement:
It would be strange for me to think I’m being ripped off, because that’s what I do!
Biography:
Richard Prince was born in the Panama Canal Zone in 1949. Trained as a figure painter, Prince began creating collages containing photographs in 1975. In the early eighties, Richard Prince started to re-photograph magazine ads featuring the Marlboro Man; since then, he’s given biker chicks, Borscht Belt jokes, celebrity autographs, muscle car hoods and pulp-fiction nurses the legitimizing stamp of “appropriation art.” He currently lives and works in upstate New York.
