Description:
This work was inspired by the turmoil created when The Andy Warhol Art Authentication Board rejected authenticity of an important Warhol Self-Portrait. The silkscreen on canvas painting had previously been deemed authentic by the late executor of Warhol's Estate Fred Hughes. The new representatives of the Andy Warhol Art Authentication Board decided that the work was not the work of Warhol and stamped DENIED on the reverse, and in that instant, a work worth 1.4 million dollars was made to be worthless. Here artist Charles Lutz takes one of Warhol’s later self portrait images, the "Fright Wig", and recreates the work to the exact specifications of the original. The replicated "Denied" stamp on the reverse is used by the artist to impose denial by his own hand, rather than that of the authentication board. This work is unframed. Provenance: direct from artist.
